On Sunday, my friends and I took a road trip from my home (and studio!) of Gray Summit, Missouri down to the city of Rolla. We were going to visit the burial site of our friend Dameon in Cuba to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of his death (which is actually the day I am writing this), and then head to the Kroger in Rolla to go get sodas that are not available in places that are not within reasonable driving distance of my house. When we got to Cuba, it was showering pretty hard, and we didn’t bring an umbrella. After all, we were just driving through the definition of scattered showers. It was cold. It was wet. It was quite possibly the most depressing weather you could imagine, and yet, it was beautiful. Rain may be an inconvenience to many, but the fact of the matter is, it brings life. Plants and animals cannot live without water, and a lot of that water comes from rain. We were thinking that it was Dameon watching over us, continuing the life cycle.
Reinforcing this idea was the fact that as we were leaving Rolla, grieving the loss of Mountain Dew Thrashed Apple, and reveling in our obtainment of Tropical 7up (which I highly recommend), we saw what was quite possibly the most vivid rainbow we’d ever seen. Even my dad, who has spent nearly 45 years on this Earth, said the same. It took the breath of all who laid eyes upon it. In fact, when I sent the picture to my friend, she responded with this message:
