Thanks Captain Obvious: USA Today declares that hurricane season has not ended

Ah, yes, because we all thought that hurricane season was over in the middle of July.

Warning: the following article, while being very sarcastic and dry in tone, is meant to be a constructive criticism of publications trying to cover topics that they seemingly know next to nothing about.

The article in question discusses the newest tropical disturbance in the Atlantic basin, which is currently threatening to hit Florida. Important information is disclosed here, as they explain that dry air hinders the development of storms, and that Hurricane Beryl was an outlier. No shit.

Backing up this claim, they consult a meteorologist from AccuWeather, the corporation supported by Donald Trump, who very much wants them to replace NOAA. Alan Reppert, the meteorologist in question, said that AccuWeather had predicted a break in tropical activity between mid-July and early August. Which is normal.

The article proceeds to continue telling us things that we already know, as they bring in a geography professor from LSU to confirm that hurricane season, in fact, does peak in August/September, and that we are moving into that period. Because we definitely needed a college professor to tell us that time was a thing.

The article ends with them telling us yet another thing that we already know, as they repeat NOAA’s hurricane forecast.

I get it. Not everybody knows this much about hurricanes. But that doesn’t mean they’re stupid. People know that hurricane season is supposed to be big this year, and they certainly know how a calendar works. All of this explanation is filler, and to be quite honest, is incredibly patronizing.

I get that people gotta get paid, but come on, is it really worth coming across like a high school trying to meet the word count for an essay? At this point, I’d rather get my news from OAN Weather.
