Seniors narrowly edge out Powderpuff win in defensive gridlock

PACIFIC, Mo. — An unexpected defensive shoving match broke out Wednesday evening as the senior girls, coached by Pacific varsity players such as Trey Kulick and Jason Kossuth, took the field against the juniors, coached by Parker Thomas and Seth Stack, among others.

The seniors would start off strong, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive, in similar fashion to Owensville in their game against Pacific last Friday. However, unfortunately for the juniors, things would not end as well for them as they did for their coaches.

As previously predicted, the juniors ran a pass-heavy offense. Kennedy Fox would score a touchdown for the class of ’26 late in the first half, much to the pleasure of their student section, nicknamed “Tribe’s Better Half.” Though, instead of taking advantage of kicker Arionna Edmonds, who would go on to pull off a 75 yard kickoff mere seconds later, the coaches made the bizarre and ill-informed decision to go for 2. The two-point conversion attempt would fail, effectively sealing the game for the seniors on what would end up being the last scoring play in the game.

What followed would be a total gridlock. The majority of the second half consisted of the ball being traded back and forth between both teams, featuring many failed trips to the red zone. Both teams’ coaching staff would collectively make the absolutely baffling decision to run the ball on nearly ever play instead of taking advantage of their kicking talent, resulting in an absurdly high number of turnovers.

In an interview with HBS, when asked about the biggest factor in today’s loss, junior coach Parker Thomas said, “It all came down to one play. I mean, the outside zone on the left when they scored on us was the only reason they won.”

The highlight of this game was the juniors’ student section, who showed up for their team and gave it their all, even if half of the class was on the wrong side of the stadium. HBS reporter Quinn Jones would grab a trash can midway through the 1st half to use as a drum, as Tribe’s Better Half chanted “DE-FENSE!” approximately 30 times.

Football returns to Randy George on Friday, as the 2-4 Pacific Indians defend their home turf from the marauding Potosi Trojans [2-4]. You can read more about it here.
