A newly-emboldened Indians team prepares for the playoffs following 56-20 destruction of St. James

After a close loss to Hermann, the Pacific Indians returned home for senior night with a fire in their hearts and a lust for victory. On their tails were the ferocious St. James Tigers, who had recently suffered a baffling defeat at the claws of the reigning Tank Bowl champions, the Union Wildcats. They were seeking to recoup this asinine failure to play football with an upset win over Seth Stack and the Indians.

They failed, facing a 36 point thrashing. Stack would score a total of five touchdowns, 3 passing and 2 rushing, with all but one in the first half. Two of these touchdowns would be the result of Pacific recovering a fumble inside of the St. James red zone. Colton Kossuth would run it in for one touchdown, and Brock McKinney would punch in two, the first being the result of yet another red zone fumble.

St. James running back John Altis would score twice, and Carter Wilfong would score once, with the latter score resulting in a failed extra point attempt at the end of the game, sealing it for the Indians 56-20.

This game marked a thrilling regular season finale for the Indians, who now prepare for the first game of the Class 4 District 2 playoffs at home against the Bayless-Hancock Broncos. When asked about his thoughts going into the playoffs, receiver Cameron Dixon said that the team was “…going to play their hearts out, and win the (Bayless) game.”

Meanwhile, St. James will come just short of returning home, traveling up old Route 66 to face their arch-rivals, the Cuba Wildcats, in the opening round of the Class 3 District 3 tournament. And when it comes to high school football, there is nothing like a playoff rivalry game. No matter how it ends, this latest edition of the Route 66 Rivalry ought to be a classic.

Author’s note: St. James is gonna lose HARD. You may have the better fashion statement, but the Mural City Kitties ain’t to be trifled with, especially against a rival who is insecure both physically and emotionally. With the exception of St. Clair, I am thoroughly excited to see the rest of the Four Rivers Conference crash and burn one by one. Go Wildcats (and not the Union kind)!
