SULLY WEEK PREVIEW: The Indians prepare to fight for their season as they head to the Nest for a rematch

PACIFIC, Missouri – We’re in the endgame now.

Following their destruction of Bayless, Pacific, who has improved to 5-5 (3-3 Four Rivers), now seeks to recoup their devastating loss against the 6-4 (5-1 FRC) Sullivan Eagles in what will most likely be the last game against a familiar for until next year’s game against Borgia.

Pacific is once again highlighted by their thunderous offense, who has not yet seen a close victory this season. Junior QB Seth Stack and RB Colton Kossuth lead this offense, both having punched in more than 10 touchdowns this season. Stack currently holds the school record for most individual passing TDs in a single game, throwing 5 in Pacific’s thrashing of Owensville, which also served to indirectly recoup the previous loss to Sullivan. He has logged 1,203 passing yards, 20 TDs, and a 51.45% completion percentage.

On the rushing side, Kossuth has shown himself to be a great running back, recording 742 rushing yards and 12 TDs. This is in addition to his prowess on the diamond, where he placed 15th in the state for batting average last season with a percentage of .437, and tied for 3rd in home runs with six total.

Meanwhile, in Sullivan, a powerful force looms directly in the mirror to Colton Kossuth. Sullivan junior running back Chase Blue has led Sullivan through 60% of obstacles, logging 1,120 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, alongside playing baseball, though definitely not as well. Accompanying him into battle is fellow junior RB Mark Jennings, with 1,367 rush yards and 14 TDs, and senior QB Robert York II, with 402 passing yards, 7 TDs, and a 50% completion rate.

On the defensive side, senior Trey Kulick and junior Brock Webb push back Pacific’s enemies, both recording 1 sack, and 92 & 88 total tackles respectively. Parker Monte and Grant Halmick headline the Eagles, having 49 and 48 tackles respectively, with Halmick also recording a sack.

Pacific’s last meeting with Sullivan, as stated previously, did not go well, as they lost 50-36. However, their meeting last year for the district championship was much different, with Pacific winning 21-20 in an absolute nail-biter of a game. Can they pull off the upset two years in a row?

When HBS asked defensive coach Jason Mayfield about being the so-called ‘trap game,’ he said that, “We want to be.”

Pacific and Sullivan play for a spot in the district final on Friday night at 7PM.
