Pacific likely to have limited student cheering section at district title game

PACIFIC, Missouri – Tuesday morning, Pacific High School principal Keith Orris announced that Tribe, the school’s official student cheering section, would not be bussing students to the upcoming Class 4 District 2 title game at Gateway STEM High School in St. Louis on Friday. Orris attributed this to both Gateway and MSHSAA’s guidelines, which, among other things, requires students to be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian, alongside the purchase of online tickets.

This decision is very harmful to Tribe, and subsequently team morale, as due to these guidelines, Tribe will most likely have a significantly smaller presence at the game. Already, many people who originally planned on attending will not be going, including some frequent flyers.

When encountered yesterday, Tribe member Carter Klund initially tipped off HBS writer Quinn Jones about this development, also stating that if it were true, he would most likely not attend. Klund has attended most, if not all Pacific football games this year.

HBS believes that these guidelines were put in place due to the amount of violence that happens at city schools like Gateway STEM, where fights break out more frequently than more suburban and rural schools such as Pacific. Gateway, located on the far northern side of The Hill, is not as bad as other parts of the city, however, the risk of violence is still prevalent.

Pacific travels to Gateway for the district title game on Friday night. Tickets can be purchased here, and you can read about Pacific’s previous game against arch-rival Sullivan here.
